We are in the final countdown. A month left means we are continuously researching and trying out last minute tactics to make us better. It turns out the body is NOT going to feel fine following an 18 mile run. Period. The last two weeks have been long with 17 and 18 miles which is taking us away from home from 6:30 a.m. until close to 1:00 p.m. when you factor in the requisite double digit mileage restaurant stop post run. My family has started to question who I am.

In the midst of all this preparation I procrastinated on my blog post and am a week late. Better late than never.
We are running a marathon in May!

It turns out the body is NOT going to feel fine following an 18 mile run. Period. My family has started to question who I am.
We are preparing in many mental, physical, and logistical ways including:
- trying athletic wear for race day
- trying new methods of fueling before, during, and after running, including how to incorporate the perfect levels of hydration, electrolytes, salt, protein, and carbohydrates
- brainstorming a variety of issues that occur when your body slowly breaks down such as shin splints, calf muscle cramps, and chafing
- Gay has resorted to texting us a WARAMIM (i.e. we are running a marathon in May) daily push-up and plank challenge so that once our legs die out we can at least army crawl across the finish line
- weighing the options and making reservations for post-marathon restaurants
- recruiting cheerleaders for race day and calculating departure times
- figuring out carpool options for getting to the race with all of said cheerleaders
- stronger emphasis on getting our mileage in during the week
- debating if this was a good idea (luckily the four of us are never questioning this at the same time)
In the midst of all this preparation I procrastinated on my blog post and am a week late. Better late than never.
We are running a marathon in May!
